--Chrisopher Morrongiello, lutist and Marcia Young,  harpist--  a talented early music duo will perform a program of amorous lute songs featuring works by John Dowland, Thomas Campion, and William Shakespeare among other silver-tongued songwriters of the Elizabethan era. In that age, music and poetry were coupled in ways that reached heights of expressivity unsurpassed to this day. Passionate verses that could melt the coldest of hearts were set to the sweet sounds of the lute—the instrument of courtly love. Talented lutenist-composers abounded at the culture-loving court of Elizabeth I, who was herself the subject of many poetic tributes in song. With lute, voice, and Renaissance harp, Christopher Morrongiello and Marcia Young play and sing the exquisite melodies of romance in Elizabeth’s England.
